Halftime BCS Conference Stock Report

These Guys LOVE College Football
SEC: BUY

Why: While they have 5 teams in my Top 15, I looked for Alabama and Florida to still be right at the top. They aren't, but the conference as a whole benefits from that with intense SEC play every week. Auburn has suprised many with such a high ranking at the halfway point. First ballot I filled out, I had Auburn at #8. Since then, they have moved up with impressive wins against the South Carolina schools. If we were just going on the West division, I would give the SEC an A+, but Georgia has completely disappointed in and outside of the conference. This conference will only increase in value by the 3rd and 4th quarters end. Definite Buy.

Best Assets through 2 Quarters: Auburn, LSU, Alabama, South Carolina

Big Ten: BUY

The Big Ten conference only has two teams in my Top 15, but 5 in my Top 25. Ohio State is ranked first, and for good reason. Having Michigan right back in the mix (sort of) is always good for the conference, and Michigan State is making their stock rise greatly. Northwestern suffered a tough loss to Purdue after just being involved in my Top 25, but I digress. Iowa is looking as strong as ever minus the Arizona loss. Penn State is averaging down at the moment, but I still see a bowl game in their future. The top half of the conference is playing well, and the bottom sector is even rising through the ranks a bit. Illinois and Purdue look like two teams still looking to make some noise in the second half of the year. Keep buying, no matter how boring the rise seems to be.

Best Assets: Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa

Big 12: Stay put

Don't move a muscle with this stock. If Texas beats Nebraska, Oklahoma will be the best asset in the conference. A team that still does not know how to close well CANNOT be a top asset. The buy is not worth the risk, but the sell could be deadly come December. Wait until after Week 7 where Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Missouri finally play a real game. OK State plays a talented Texas Tech team, Missouri plays Texas A&M, and Nebraska plays Texas. If we see all three of those teams win against those opponents, BUY BUY BUY.

Best Assets: Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, (still) Texas

ACC: Sell

With Miami out of the running, the ACC's entire credibility rests on Florida State. Virginia Tech is still there, but not nationally. North Carolina has bigger problems to deal with this year. With the weight of the world resting on Florida State, I believe they will be tripped up by at least one ACC school before the year is done. They're my pick to win the ACC, but getting national acclaim is not for this years team. Never use your heart when picking stocks, drop the ACC like it's hot.

Best Assets: Florida State, Virginia Tech (non-JMU)

Pac-10: BUY

Do yourself a favor and buy as much as you can of the Pac-10 stock. USC will not be a factor heading into late October, but that just makes it that much more fun for me. Oregon is a legit National Title contender, and Stanford will stay sold for the rest of the season. Don't be suprised if Stanford picks up a BCS bowl if things go their way. Arizona will stay a factor, as will Oregon State. Shane Vereen will keep California in the running for the rest of the year. This conference has too much depth to leave it alone. You want to buy this stock.

Best Assets: Oregon, Stanford, Cal, Oregon State, Arizona, USC

Big East: DUMP

Well, the Big East has continued its run as the worst BCS conference to date. They lost nearly all of their high profile OOC clashes, and only has one team that isn't on the brink of imploding in the second half of the season. When Syracuse (BEAT MAINE!) and Rutgers (Lost to Tulane) are on top of your conference standings any time during the year, it's just another sign to leave this alone if you're window shopping, and frantically drop it if you possess it. Best case scenario for the conference is an Orange bowl win. There aren't any national threats. Sorry, Pittsburgh

Best Assets: West Virginia....
