Worst Voter of the Week: Week 5 Edition

Every week I'll take a look at how the individual AP poll voters voted (thanks to http://www.pollstalker.com/) and then share who I think had the worst poll for that week.

This week's honors go to...

Scott Wolf, Los Angeles Daily Times

Boo this man

This is Scott's poll for week 5.

1. Alabama

2. Florida

3. Boise State

4. TCU

5. Ohio State

6. Oklahoma

7. Nebraska

8. LSU

9. Stanford

10. Oregon

11. Auburn

12. Miami (FL)

13. Arkansas

14. Utah

15. Arizona

16. Air Force

17. Florida State

18. Southern California

19. Texas

20. South Carolina

21. West Virginia

22. Kansas State

23. Iowa

24. Nevada

25. Oregon State

Problems with 1-10:

Obviously Florida at 2 catches the eye first. Florida looked sharp for the first time last week against Kentucky at home, and have yet to leave Gainesville this season. I had UF at 10, but 2 ahead of Ohio State, Nebraska and Oregon is a joke. Ohio State at 5 below both Boise State and TCU is terrible as well. They are the clear cut number two team in the country at this point. Moving on, we see LSU at number 8. Admittedly I have LSU at 13, but that is much more because of teams ahead of them losing rather than LSU impressing. They nearly lost to a totally depleted North Carolina team at a neutral site, and were played close by West Virginia in Baton Rouge. West Virginia's only other road game of the year was a near loss to C-USA foe Marshall. Finally at 10 Scott has Oregon. Despite a less than impressive effort at Arizona State last week, Oregon has looked like a top 5 team. Oregon didn't dominate the Sun Devils like they had dominated their previous opponents, but still came away with an 11 point win against a conference opponent on the road, and in no way deserve to be ranked 1o.

Problems with 11-20:

Let's start with Miami (FL) at 12. I had the 'Canes at 17. While they looked impressive against Pitt on the road, Pitt is a very average team from the Big East. Jacory Harris still looks like a turnover machine on the road, already having 6 interceptions in 2 road games this year. They don't deserve (yet, at least) to be ahead of teams like Arizona, Utah and Arkansas. Moving on, we come across Air Force at 16. I cannot tell you where the love for the Falcons came from. They beat an average BYU team who is even worse on the road in Falcon Stadium. They did play Oklahoma close, but so did Utah State and Cincinnati. Last week Air Force nearly lost to Wyoming. Next we go to the very next team, Florida State at 17. The Seminoles will have their chances down the road, but as of now they don't deserve to be ranked at all. They beat subpar opponents at home, and got throttled in their only road game at Oklahoma. Oklahoma's biggest margin of victory this season is 7 against Utah State, but they beat FSU by 30. I also don't think Texas should be ranked, let alone ranked 19, but considering everything else wrong with this poll, that is minor.

Problems with 21-25 and unranked:

West Virginia shouldn't be ranked, but Scott has them at 21. The Mountaineers needed a furious comeback in the 4th quarter to knock off Marshall in overtime, and also lost to an LSU team who I am not high on. They really haven't looked sharp in any of their games. Next up is Kansas State at 22. Bill Snyder's team has beaten poor opponents (maybe with the exception of UCLA) in an unimpressive fashion, and have yet to play a road game this season. They will have a chance to prove themselves later on, but for now shouldn't be ranked. Rounding out Scott's poll is Oregon State. Somehow, he has Oregon State as the 25th best team in the nation. Not only do they have a losing record, but both losses were no non-BCS conference opponents (Boise State and TCU). Their only win was a 7 point victory at home to a bad Louisville team. The Beavers are nowhere near being ranked for now. To cap things off, Scott has both Wisconsin and Michigan unranked. I will admit Wisconsin has been underwhelming thus far considering what they had returning from last year, but surely they deserve to be ranked at this point. Also I don't think Michigan will continue to play at this level for the rest of the season, but they also deserve to at least be ranked for now.

Jordan's Top 25 - Week 4

Games on Tap For Week 5

Courtesy of ourhonordefend.com
SEC:

Florida @ Alabama- How well can executions go when the opposing coaches neck is made of steel? King James, meet Urban Meyer. McElroy needs to do less while Ingram and Richardson will do the same amount of awesome. Turnovers are key in this game. Who wins the TO margin, wins the game. I'm feelin' some Roll Tide right now, but get back at me on friday.

Georgia @ Colorado: Two coaches enter, one coach will leave with his head separated from his shoulders. Mark Richt is in a near death situation while Dan Hawkins will always be in a near death situation... because he is frankenstein.

BIG TEN:

Penn State @ Iowa- Damn, Penn State almost lost to the future Penn State head coach? Yum... Al Golden and Temple nearly beat Penn State AT Penn State. Now, Ricky Stanzi still thinks interceptions are good things, but Iowa's defense will still play as well as they can at homecoming. In the corn field, against a sloppy offense, I like the Hawkeyes at the moment.

Wisconsin @ Michigan State- The battle of unbeatens will enter East Lansing and only one will leave unbeaten. Spartan fans, you know I love you. You know I root for you every time you play Notre Dame, but Wisconsin put up 70 in WEEK 4. Kirk Cousins will throw a damn bad pass and Michigan State will lose in a heart breaker...

BIG 12:

Texas and Oklahoma- Neutral Site. Red River Rivalry. Cool. Too bad Texas lost to Neusie and UCLA or else this game would have national implications on both sides of the ball. I like Oklahoma even though they do like to win in nerveracking fashion. I say their defense acts like it should against a disfunctional Texas offense and wins this RRR by 7+.

More conference game previews coming very, very soon.

Mike Leach Commits... To NEW MEXICO

My unabashed love for Coach Leach will now lead me to New Mexico. It seems as if he could have deserved better, but I just love to see him return to coaching. Mike Locksley, New Mexico's current coach, will not be fired immeadiately, though. Locksley will be relieved of his duties after October 9th. This gives Leach a bye week to implement his genius offensive system. Stay tuned, this will be extremely interesting.. no joke

Jordan's Top 25 - Week 3

This is my top 25 for week 3. Ideally college football polls wouldn't come out until this time at the earliest, because aside from speculation we don't really know much about teams until they have played a few games.

Yes, College Football is the best. Why Do you Ask?

Courtesy of Cbssports.com
Of course the College Football gods do this to us. So called "Monster weekend" is a relative dud, while week 3 (dud week) electrifies and invigorates the spirits of college football that had yet to be brought out this year. I'll quickly go through some of the games that caught my eye this beautiful saturday.

Arkansas @ Georgia: Mark Richt...

I had Arkansas winning this game, but in a different way. Once ARK got up on the bulldogs 24-10 I began to calm down and know that at least one of my noon picks went right. Georgia came surging back, though, and gave Arkansas a run for their money. Ryan Mallett looked like a robot nearly the entire game. His passing mechanics are nearly flawless as he was able to get his first ever road win in the SEC. I learned to be scared of Arkansas' playcalling (in a good way). I also learned to be scared for Mark Richt. The coaching was nearly non-existent in the last few moments of the game when composure was greatly needed. The forces that be in Georgia may not be feeling the same way they did just two years ago.

Oh yeah... Joe Adams is REALLY GOOD

Maryland @ West Virginia

West Virginia likes making things interesting, but Maryland is quite alright sticking with a double-digit loss. Thanks but no thanks Coach Stewart.

UCONN @ Temple

TEMPLE IS FO REAL. Oh and as for UCONN... the only success thus far in the year was to brainwash Kirk Herbstreit. If anyone can do it, the fine gentlemen from Stoors, Connecticut can.

P.S. Jordon Todman likes getting help from teammates. Just something to think about in the future.

Alabama @ Duke

Alabama is good

Clemson @ Auburn

Kyle Parker fought through seemingly horrible pain to just come up short against the Auburn Tigers. Without that limp, would he have gotten that touchdown in the endzone? One can only wonder. Gritty effort by the ACC boys, but they just come up short (like all ACC teams in big games) against a potent offensive attack led by Cam Newton. 17-3 heading into the half is nothing for Cameron as the home team brings glory to the SEC. Kickers are skitzo's

Notre Dame @ Michigan State

Mark D'Antonio has balls of steel, and Brian Kelly likes that. Kelly is a class act. While I have a hard time rooting for Notre Dame 13 weeks of the year, Kelly makes me appriciate the team that much more. Only problem thus far at ND: He's a bit wacky with play calls.. very liberal.

Game Review: Cincinnati @ NC State

So... I got this one way off. As an ACC fan, it has been my tendency not to trust NC State in too many occasions, hence the pick of Cincinnati to win the game. Russell Wilson and his wolfpack looked consistent through out. Wilson has always been able to make a consistent effort for NC State, but the impact players around him showed up big time tonight. I was really impressed with the defense tonight as pressure was constantly brought to the shify Collaros. Here are some grades for the nightcap.

Quarterback-
Cinci: C+
NC State: A-

Running Backs-
Cinci: D
NC State: B-

Recievers-

Defensive Line-

Linebackers-

NC State- B

I was really disappointed in the way Butch Jones gameplaned tonight. We saw the Bearcats go deep very few times to a player like Armon Binns who I love as a deep threat out there. Zach Collaros did not look poised the entire game. I don't blame him in the least. If I was hit a grand total of a zillion times then I would be shaken AND stirred. NC State brings the heat for the third time in three weeks. Have the stars finally aligned for Tom O'Brien and the Wolfpack? With this type of effort, I the dreaded word has to be thrown out there.
